Tell It Straight is DCU’s annual competition specifically designed to encourage postgraduate research students to communicate their research and its potential impact to a non-specialist audience in a concise, dynamic and innovative way utilising current technology. In 2013 I helped create two videos for two of the researchers in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute.
The first was Dr. Ruairi Monaghan’s “One Size Fits All – A Surface for Every Sickness”. Ruairi drew all the frames and photographed them using an overhead camera. I then edited the images in Photoshop and animated them in After Effects. I also recorded Ruairi’s voiceover in Adobe Audition and mixed his voice in with the music. Ruairi’s video won the competition that year.
The second video was Dr. Milena Rowinska’s “I pink it can be cured”. I recorded all the source fotoage for this video and edited it all together in After Effects & Premiere Pro. The audio was recorded at source and mixed in Audition. Milena’s video came in 2nd place in 2013.
